Dance with Gen run Top 40 Dance classes out of Dance Factory dance studio in Richmond and also offer Party Gigs and Wedding Dance Sessions.
Gen officially began dancing at the age of ten in 1999 but was learning film clip choreography from Video Hits long before then. After eight years of jazz, funk and hip hop classes including DFTA level exams at Dance Factory, Gen began teaching children’s jazz/funk classes at her local YMCA in Balwyn.
While teaching children’s classes between 2008 and 2010, Gen continued to develop her own technique with two years of salsa dancing and her passion for Latin leading to a Zumba teaching qualification.
In 2011 Gen began teaching the Groove Method as a multi-style dance class for adults and in 2012 she travelled to Kenya to facilitate Groove Dance sessions for HIV Positive women. Gen also became qualified as a DancePl3y instructor in 2014.
At the end of 2012 Gen began attending Beyonce-style dance classes and in 2014 when Bey Dance was formed she became one of the first Bey Dance teachers. With Bey Dance Gen taught classes in Brunswick, Richmond, Prahran and Fitzroy and performed in various gigs including the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Melbourne Fringe Festival. While teaching with Bey Dance, Gen also experimented with burlesque and fan dance classes at Maison Burlesque.
Gen’s strong dance history has led to various acquaintances employing her to choreograph dances for weddings, Christmas parties, hens parties, baby showers and a Netball Australia Dance video.
Every one of these dance classes, all of the dance students and each dance gig is what has led to Dance with Gen.
